Meet the Owner of Twinkle Treats | Sabrina Rodriguez

Hi Sabrina! Can you introduce yourself and tell us your story leading up to owning “Twinkle Treats”?

  • Hi! I’m Sabrina Rodriguez and I’m 27.  I was born in Spain, raised in both Morocco and France and finally settled in Colorado in 2021. I moved to the US to join my now husband after a tumultuous immigration process during the COVID pandemic.  It was hard to get here, and once I was here, I wasn’t allowed to do much until my status was adjusted. So I baked almost every day for 8 months, and focused on sugar cookies and cakes.

After a few months, I started getting inquiries and orders for custom sugar cookies so I decided to start a business as soon as I became a permanent resident!  Twinkle Treats turned 1 year old last March.

I started working at a French immersion school downtown Denver and was loving it! Unfortunately, there was no room for me to grow there professionally this year so I decided to focus on my business instead. It’s a bittersweet feeling because I did not expect to take that leap so soon but I’m also very excited to spend all my time and energy into growing Twinkle Treats.

Are you from Colorado? Which neighborhood did you eventually choose to call home?

  • I live in the Del Mar Park neighborhood in Aurora, CO. When my husband and I were finally ready to buy our first home, we visited a few houses in Denver but eventually fell in love with our cute little house that was built in the 1940’s. It’s quirky and cute and makes for the perfect pickup location for my custom orders! It’s also super close to Del Mar Park where I am a regular vendor at a farmers market called Rebel Marketplace.

What are some of your best selling cookies or favorite cookies you’d like to showcase? How can folks order custom cookies from you?

  • My favorites cookies I’ve ever made?! That’s like asking a parent to choose their favorite child! But the one I’m the most proud of is the cookie I made in honor of Casa Bonita reopening. It’s completely freehanded and took me an hour to complete. And yes I am available for custom orders between $55 and $65 a dozen. you’ll find the order form on my website!

You mentioned to stay tuned for Classes, Events, Markets- can you tell us about those?

  • So as I mentioned above, I’m a regular vendor at Rebel Marketplace, a farmers market located in Del Mar Park in Aurora that focuses on giving back to the community and make farmers market more accessible to the local community. I hosted a Free Cookie Decorating Class there last October and I am planning on doing that again this year since it was a huge hit! I will also be offering private classes for holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas ect. I’m currently looking for venues to rent and am opening to collaborating with local businesses to host cookie decorating classes together!

What challenges have you experienced on your journey?

  • The most challenging part was the anticipation. My husband and I were together for a year when we got engaged in NYC and began the immigration process to bring me to the US. Our engagement was just a few months before the COVID pandemic started, so my visa was on hold at the embassy for more than a year. I also brought my cat with me!

How would you describe the Personality or “Vibe” of Denver?

  • Denver is so eclectic, rich, diverse and energetic. It’s the perfect balance between city life and mountain life, fast paced and slow life, and everything in between. The people are wonderful, the food is amazing and I’ve never felt like I belonged anywhere until I stepped foot in Denver for the first time almost 5 years ago.
