Karen Huff is 72, but puts most 30-somethings to shame when it comes to being involved, active, and engaged! Karen moved to Applewood several years ago from the quaint foothill community of Manitou just outside Colorado Springs. Since moving here, she has become active with her church, the city, and her neighbors. Karen is a beautiful example of how to grow old with style and a big smile!

Why did you choose Applewood?

I chose the neighborhood and especially the house because it was one level, a compatible neighborhood for my age group, and I’m on Lena Gulch, providing a creek and water wildlife in my backyard. I love the older, established neighborhood with a natural setting and lots of mature trees.

What activities in or around Wheat Ridge do you participate in regularly?

I go to the Wheat Ridge rec center twice a week for yoga, and I have taken classes at the adult center. I attend church in Lakewood and use the Washington Heights Arts Center weaving studio. I enjoy long walks in the neighborhood, parks or along the Clear Creek Trail.

What local businesses are your favorites?

My favorite local businesses are Applejack’s Liquor, Recycled Lamb, Musilli’s shoes, Teller’s, Posey Girl Flower Shop, Foothills Art Center in Golden, and The Arvada Art Center.

What do you love about Denver? Wheat Ridge?

I love the local and restaurants along The Ridge at 38, and along 32nd in the West Highlands. I like that I can easily spend an afternoon in these interesting, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods.
