Quiara Scrima & Matthew Neam are Colorado natives who grew up loving Colorado’s mountains and everything you can think of to do in them!

We snowboard the resorts and take to the backcountry on our splitboards when it gets too crowded. We hike, backpack, and camp on trails we enjoyed as kids and explore spots we never knew existed after thirty years of living here. Our desire to be outside and breath in the beauty and adventure our state affords us has been a  huge part of our relationship- it is our form of romance. Last May Matt proposed to me in a blizzard after a long skin up Wolf Creek in the San Juan Mountains. Our engagement photos were taken in the Great Sand Dunes, a hidden gem of the San Luis Valley- a place that we fell in love with, when we first fell in love with each other. Next summer we will get married in Ridgway, surrounded by those same Mountains and all of our friends and family. Our passion is finding ways to show gratitude for Colorado’s beauty by drinking it in together, sharing it with the people we love, and then coming home to Relax and do it all again!

DSC_2951What neighborhood is your home in?

We are so fortunate to have purchased our Cory-Merrill home in 2014.

Why Cory-Merrill?

After months of searching in various Denver neighborhoods (and nearly postponing our dream), we knew after stepping into the front door this was it! Matt, being a Mortgage Broker at On Q Financial, knew right away that this neighborhood was an amazing find for our first home. He had the foresight to think about the excellent schools just blocks away, the proximity to main highways, and its prime reputation as a coveted Denver neighborhood. The yards were also a huge part of our decision to buy! We both grew up loving our parents gardens and eating the fresh foods they produced. We were so excited at the prospect of trying out our green thumbs and reliving the child like magic a garden brings, and our dog Giuseppe was pretty pumped too!

What about the neighborhood jives with your lifestyle?

I am still taken by the safe and quiet suburban neighborhood feel I get here, in the heart of a booming urban city! We are able to enjoy walks past mature trees and beautiful homes to meet friends for a drink on Gaylord Street. In a short ten minute bike ride we can be at Cherry Creek North for shopping and dinner at top restaurants. Like many of our neighbors, we look forward to the long summer nights- filling up a cooler and taking to Wash Park for post work volleyball. People smile and wave here when you pass them. You can hear kids playing outside in the summer, screaming with delight. Neighbors shovel your walkway when it snows if you aren’t home and move your trash can in the alley if you forget. Being in our early 30s we appreciate the energy, vibrance, and growth we feel during a night out in Denver proper, but feel at peace in the ease of living Cory-Merrill presents us with. What more could we ask for in a neighborhood?

What inspired the look of your your home’s decor style?

Our house has a bright and warming energy we both picked up on immediately! The home was well cared for but had a lot of potential to be transformed with simple changes. The first step was changing the paint colors (from brick red, mustard yellow, and pea green) to bright whites and cool neutrals. After freeing the space from its old shrinking colors, it was important to me to add furniture and decor that went with the era of our 1947 home. I took to a mid-century modern palate to design our home’s interior. I enjoy cozying up with a simplistic and modern vibe with plants, candles, carpets, and books we love. It is important to me to keep things clean and open without feeling sterile or impersonal.
