Tell us a bit about your back story leading to where you are now?

I started my baking business in 2019 after working as an interior designer for 6 years. I made a list of everything I enjoy doing that I wouldn’t mind turning into a business & baking came out on top. I took a huge leap of faith & used all my savings to sign up for a local farmers market where I sold jar cupcakes and homemade Oreos. I sold out in 2 hours and the rest is history!

What inspires your cake artistry? What are some of your favorites you have done?

I’m constantly inspired by all the amazing cake artists I follow on lnstagram. Cake art has no boundaries and it’s amazing to see what others can create. It really keeps me going and motivates me to continue learning and pushing myself. My artistic background definitely plays a part in my cake style. My favorite is between a stencil/fault line cake I did for a bridal shoot & a Geode cake I recently did.

Where is your business located? How can people purchase your cakes?

I am a home baker so don’t own a shop (yet). I offer pickup from downtown Denver in the Five points area and delivery. People can visit my website, view my flavors & submit their order using the custom order form.  www.flickofthewhiskcakes.com

Do you have any events or promotions coming up you’d like people to know about?

I will begin offering in-person & one-on-one baking classes in March so stay tuned!

Are you from CO? Why did you choose to call your neighborhood home?

I was born in Colorado, but grew up in Dayton, Ohio. I moved back here with my parents in 2011.

What do you love about Denver?

I love the support of local businesses here and the variety of businesses. It’s why my business has been so successful and I will be forever grateful.

What are your favorite local Denver businesses or places?

Favorite Local Black Owned Businesses?

Oh wow I definitely can’t pinpoint one denver business as my favorite. There are so many amazing business owners. One business I really admire because of their growth and dedication is Craft Boner. I remember seeing her at holiday pop ups and now her business is booming.
My favorite Black Business is between Body Love by Tal (skincare) & Black & Blossomed (florist).

What do you love about Denver?

I love that there is always something to do. Definitely a huge difference from Ohio haha. Although I’m not a fan of the snow & cold, Colorado is such a pretty state in the winter.

How would you describe the personality or “vibe” of Denver?

Active & constantly growing (which is also frustrating haha)
