Phil Kim helps us celebrate the northwest Denver experience, particularly Sloan’s Lake, through his vivid descriptions of his neighborhood, favorite places to eat,  listen to music & be active. There is no better way to get to know a neighborhood & all it has to offer than to listen to the stories and descriptions from the locals themselves. Our city & the Sloan’s Lake neighborhood has so much to offer and each time we talk with a local who resides there we learn a little bit more about must try places & the feel of the neighborhood.

What neighborhood do you live in?

I live in Sloan’s Lake.

Why did you choose that neighborhood?

First off I love the lake – great place to unwind, go for a stroll or bike, and walk the dog. It’s also close to all the cool restaurants, bars and nightlife in the Highlands, and its stones throw to downtown and Sport Authority field what’s not to like?

What are your favorite local places?

Slohi Coffee, Wooden Spoon, Bacon Social House, Buchi Cafe – too many to list…

What do you love about Denver?

It’s affordability. I’ve lived on both the east and west coasts and Denver is super affordable compared to NY and LA – yet has a great live music scene and dining culture that is starting to rival both. Also how accessible you are to the outdoors – just over an hour to the mountains with world class skiing? Yes thank you!  And the changing seasons keeps it interesting – just when ski season is over hiking and camping season is just around the corner. It’s a great mix of urban and outdoors without having to sacrifice either.

Are you from CO?

Nope. I’ve been a gypsy of sorts due to school and work but I’ve set roots down in the best place I’ve lived here in Denver.

How would you describe the personality or “vibe” of Denver? Your neighborhood?

Laid back. Foodie town. Outdoorsy. Hip. Pet friendly.
