Why did you choose Edgewater to do business in?
I’ve lived in NW Denver for many years, and started Make My Notebook in 2007 the basement of our first house on Raleigh St. As we grew, we needed to find a space that was affordable for a start up, but convenient for me and my two employees who both live in east Wheat Ridge. Edgewater was the perfect solution to both problems.
What about this neighborhood jives with your business culture?
I love the small town vibe in Edgewater. We see the same people walking by our studio all the time: taking the dogs for a stroll, running to do a lap around Sloans Lake, or hitting the corner barber shop. We love to work with the doors open wide and chat with the people who wander in. NW Denver in general has such a strong sense of community, and we love the local support we’ve gotten over the past nine years.
Why are you passionate about your business? What’s the story?
My business was born in the winter of 2007 as a cure for my winter garden blues. After searching for the perfect notebook and coming up empty handed, I decided to just design my own. Thus blossomed the studio and our premium line of notebooks, journals and sketchbooks. I’ve been able to combine a few of my passions by creating Make My Notebook: I’m always so inspired by nature and good design, and taking care of our planet is always a top priority in anything I do. We’ve created an everyday product with great design, recycled paper, all made in America…and I’m so proud.
What inspired the look of your business/ the design?
As a designer myself, I’ve always loved to play with lots of color, bold graphics and just have fun. Our cover designs range from lovely words and beautiful botanicals to pretty patterns and original art by local artists. Over the past few years we’ve collaborated with some amazing artists to showcase their artwork on our notebooks. It’s been such a fun process!
